Feeling Energy: Working with a Pendulum in Energy Healing Sessions

A spiritual pendulum is a tool by which we can physically see and feel the invisible energy flowing (or not flowing) through each chakra within ourselves or within another. (Please become familiar with and respectful of the reading process by practicing on yourself before you move on to working with energy in others.)
A pendulum is, by definition, a weight hanging from a fixed point. When pulled and released, the forces of gravity and inertia create movement. When held still and no force is inflicted upon it, energy from our auric field is transmitted to the pendulum and creates movement. The way the pendulum moves reflects the way our energy moves.
When placed over each chakra, you will get a reading of you (or your subject's) energetic state. Do not attempt to actually DO anything at first. Let the pendulum do the work and you will feel it. The first time you feel the energy move the pendulum, you will get a little bit of a rush and a feeling that we are all just magic after all. (If you're like me, you'll have the urge to show all your friends and family your new skills. Resist it. That's just ego talking.) After a while, you will become more familiar with the way it functions and truly understanding of its power.

You can purchase a spiritual pendulum or make your own. The chain from which the pendulum hangs should be flexible, with one comfortable end for holding lightly between your thumb and index finger, and one end with the weight you choose.
The weight can be made from crystal, but can also be made with precious stones, rings, or small pieces of wood. In order to get an accurate reading of energy's movement, triangular-shaped weights work best, as it is easier to watch the small point of them rather than the whole surface of a large chunky object.

Make sure to cleanse and bless your pendulum before and after each use. You can use the smoke of your favorite incense or rinse it with water. If you will be using this as a tool in your healing sessions, please become acquainted with the pendulum as a personal item that you treasure and feel connected to in mind, body, and spirit. Bless the space around you and set the intention to dispel any negative energies that may have accumulated in you, around you, and on the pendulum itself. This increases the chances of getting a clear reading.
"Please melt away any impure or cluttered energy that may have accumulated within me, around me, or on this sacred tool. I trust spirit to guide me as I continue my journey in mind and body."
Your mind (thoughts), body (5 senses), and spirit (emotions) all affect the way energy flows, instantaneously. For the most accurate readings, try to ensure the highest possible comfort for M, B, & S. Make sure you (or your subject) is laying comfortably. Begin reading at the root and work up to the crown. Remember the areas of life which govern each chakra to understand energy's movement through these filters.

The pendulum is simply a tool by which we read energy. It is not controlling the energy or manipulating the energy in any way. The pendulum does not heal anything. It only helps to indicate where healing is needed, and can display where energy healing is acting effectively. It is a great before, during, and after tool for any energy healing session.
Energy centers (the 7 main chakras -- root to crown) can be open, closed, or blocked. Energy flow can be under-active, overactive, imbalanced, or balanced.
The pendulum will rotate at the same speed and direction of the energy in each chakra. The direction and style of the pendulum's motion displays the state of the chakras and the energy within the chakra.
Think of it like this: the chakra is the bowl, the energy is the batter, and the pendulum is the spoon. The batter should be smooth and moving effortlessly, but it shouldn't be too runny. The harder and more rigid the batter shows itself being stirred, the more clotted and clunky the energy is. Smooth, steady, medium-sized clockwise motions usually indicate a healthy and balanced energy.
If the chakra is closed altogether, the pendulum will not display movement. It hangs dead. If the chakra is blocked, the pendulum will typically be very indecisive and lack any pattern in its movements. It varies for everyone, but will typically appear like this:
Open chakra:
Under-active energy (balanced but low life force, chakra needs reinforcement) = slow, pulse-like clockwise circles
Over-active energy (processing too much energy; needs redistributing to under-active chakras and re-balancing of corresponding areas of life) = large, sweeping, rapid movements (circles or swings)
Open, but blocked chakra:
Unsettled energy, indecisive energy, in pain, stuck in place or in reverse, not free-flowing (needs RELEASE of negative imprints) = jagged movements, rapid or pulse-like tiny counter clockwise circles
Open but imbalanced chakra:
Imbalance and dis-alignment with other chakras; many areas of life do not harmonize with one another and need re-balancing; too many conflicting energies; needs clarity and separation= straight swings back and forth (left to right or root to crown)
Directions and their significance:
Straight swings left to right: often indicates imbalance between masculine and feminine energy, or yin/yang aspects of one’s life
Straight large swings from root to crown: often indicates a need to balance spiritual activity with practical down-to-earth grounding in specific areas of life associated with the chakra
Diagonal: undecided, too much conflicting energy to process
Be sure to cleanse the tool when you are finished and send gratitude to it and to the universe for guiding you during your reading. It is believed to be best to wrap the pendulum in a red silk cloth when finished so that it does not accumulate excess and erroneous energy while not in use. Keep it in a safe place, or on your spiritual altar.
